The Chainsaw Equation
The Symbol of our Work Together.
At the heart of the Monadnock Center’s mission lies the concept of the Chainsaw Equation, a powerful metaphor that encapsulates our approach to context-specific care missions and ministry. This section delves into the significance of this symbol and how it guides our work toward proactive engagement and meaningful impact.

When we table at events… We come with the nice signage… The candy… the brochures… But at the center of our table is our attention-getter – a chainsaw. What we call the chainsaw equation has become the best way we know of to talk about our work as it extends to context-specific care missions and ministry.
In all forms of mission and ministry, the critical foundation is a combination of the work that is taken before, during, or after a storm. Integral to any task is the development of the resources, connections, and training to step quicker into the moments that a church, faith community, or organization feels called.
We focus on building connections so that we can show the world faith in action, and develop those foundations that are perceived as authentic and relevant faith in action. Models of Care are tools – perhaps like a chainsaw.
The chainsaw is a symbol for that work. As a tool, it not only works best in the cleanup of a storm, but it is useless if the chain isn’t oiled or people don’t know how to use the tool.
